WindNinja 2.1.2 Released

WindNinja 2.1 Released

Hello everyone. A new version of WindNinja has been released! You can download this new version (2.1.2) from the Downloads page.

This release of WindNinja includes several bug fixes and enhancements.

  1. 64-bit version: A 64-bit version is now available (for 64-bit Windows XP, Vista, and 7 operating systems). The main advantage of this new 64-bit version is the ability to run simulations on larger areas by accessing more computer memory. Additionally, the 64-bit version ran about 12% faster than the 32-bit version on our test machine.
  2. NDFD weather model initialization: Fixed a bug where the NDFD weather model initialization wasn't working.
  3. Installation: Fixed an installation bug occurring on some machines that was related to linkage with the Microsoft Visual Studio runtime libraries.
  4. Output file resolution: Fixed a bug related to output file resolutions not working correctly when the output resolution was less than the elevation file resolution.
  5. Improved messaging: Added better messaging on run failure in the graphical user interface.

The release also includes many enhancements for other software developers and researchers that are using WindNinja:

  1. WindNinja development website: Unveiled a WindNinja development web site, which gives access to the WindNinja source code, wiki, bug/feature tracking, etc. The site can be found at: https://collab.firelab.org/software/projects/windninja/.
  2. CMake Build System: Transitioned the building of WindNinja to the CMake build system.
  3. Documentation for Windows and Linux: Documented the process of building WindNinja for Windows and Linux platforms here: https://collab.firelab.org/software/projects/windninja/wiki/Building_WindNinja_with_CMake.
  4. Source Tree Reorganization: Reorganized the source tree to be more platform independent.
  5. Weather Model File Format: Added support for wind initialization using generic coarse weather model output. The required file format is described here: https://collab.firelab.org/software/projects/windninja/wiki/WxModelFormat.

As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated! Send comments, questions, feature requests, etc. to the WindNinja Team.

Thanks,
The WindNinja Team
