System Requirements

The following minimum computer system configurations are recommended for use of the FireFamilyPlus fire modeling system.

FireFamilyPlus is a 32-bit MS Windows® program.

Microsoft® Programs Used   MS Access Databases

 

FireFamilyPlus uses Microsoft Access 2000 data files and ships with the Microsoft® DAO/Jet database engine for data access. You can also use Microsoft® Access outside of FireFamilyPlus to review your data.

 

Data Requirements

An easy source of historical (i.e., not current calendar year) Fire Weather and Federal Fire Occurrence data is available in the Fire and Weather Data area of the U.S. Forest Service, Fire & Aviation Management (F&AM) Web Applications Website (FAMWEB): http://fam.nwcg.gov/fam-web/.

 

FireFamilyPlus will correctly import the following standard files:

  • Fire Weather
    • 1972 Formatted *.FWX Files (Non Y2K Compliant 1) from the above website or Data Warehouse
    • 1998 Formatted *.FW9 Files (Y2K Compliant) from KCFAST or the Data Warehouse
    • User defined weather files in comma delimited text files

  • Fire Occurrence
    • U.S. Forest Service: PCHA formatted *.RAW files from the above website (Region/Forest/District)
    • Department of Interior: WFMI PCHAFFP formatted files from the above website. (NWCG Unit ID Codes)
    • Custom Agencies: User created comma delimited text files

 

1Import modules use a Pivot Year of 30 for Non Y2K compliant data. Years from 00 to 29 are interpreted as 2000 to 2029. Years from 30 to 99 are interpreted as 1930 to 1999.
