The "Choose Color Ramp" dialog box gives three options for choosing a color legend for the current visible theme. To change an individual color in the legend see the Changing Individual Colors topic.
To open the "Choose Color Ramp" dialog box right click in the theme's legend.
A Color (.CLR) File is a previously saved legend color scheme. While there is nothing to prevent you from doing so, you should load a color file made only for the same or similar theme. Loading a Color (.CLR) File with a different number of colors compared to the number of attributes in the visible theme can have unpredictable results.
Color (.CLR) Files are loaded by checking the Use Stored Color Values checkbox and clicking the Load Color File (.CLR) button to use a previously saved Color (.CLR) File.
The current legend colors can be saved to a Color (.CLR) File by clicking the Save Color File button.
Select the Continuous Scale radio button for themes like elevation or aspect and use a color scheme (ramp) from the drop down list.
The selected "color ramp" can then be modified to make it easier to understand.
You can limit the number of steps in the legend with the Number of Colors text box (maximum number is 256). Often it's helpful to reduce the number of colors for a raster map as it becomes hard to differentiate between the colors when there are more than eight to ten.
The "darkness" of the dark end of scale is changed with the Minimum Brightness (%) spin box. Zero is darkest and 100% is brightest.
The "lightness" of the bright end of scale is changed with the Maximum Brightness (%) spin box. Zero is darkest and 100% is brightest.
Select the Reverse Color check box to swap the light and dark ends of the ramp with the high and low theme values.
Select the Unique Values radio button for themes with discrete attribute values like fuel model or themes with categories. Use a color scheme from the pick list. The number of colors will be the number of attribute values in the Visible Theme.
The selected legend can then be modified to make it easier to understand.
The darkest end of the legend is changed with the Minimum Brightness (%) spin box. Zero is darkest and 100% is brightest.
The lightest of the bright end is changed with the Maximum Brightness (%) spin box. Zero is darkest and 100% is brightest.
Select the Reverse Color check box to swap the light and dark ends of the ramp with the high and low theme values.
If a Fuel Conversion (.CNV) File is included in the Project (.FPJ) File, the new converted values will not be reflected in the legend unless the Convert LCP Fuel Colors check box is selected.
