Known Bugs If you find bugs in the program, please check this list to see if it has already been reported. If your own special bug is not listed, please report it to the National Support Desk. Help systems in version 4.0 and later Item 001DescriptionIn the FARSITE online help system "Related Topics" and navigation buttons at the bottom of many pages are replaced with a small grey box with a red dot. Clicking the grey box has no effect. This appears to be a problem with the Windows 2000 and earlier operating systems. Windows XP and 2003 operating systems do not appear to have the problem. This problem also appears in the S-493 pre-classroom lesson materials (.chm files). StatusThe problem is completely described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 822989. FixInstall Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) or Critical Update 811630 (use the above link). If SP4 is installed and the symptoms persist you need to unregister the HTML Help ActiveX control and then re-register it, by running the following two commands from a command prompt: - regsvr32 /u :winntsystem32hhctrl.ocx
- regsvr32 :winntsystem32hhctrl.ocx
Before applying any of the above fixes to agency owned computers you should check with your IT people. Forest Service users should contact the End User Support Center and reference Ticket #982672, they should then help you install Critical Update 811630. This problem will also be fixed Forest Service wide with the installation of Service Pack 4.
Item 002DescriptionWhen you open the FARSITE or FlamMap Help systems the content pane gives a "Page Not Found" message. This problem is found on machines with Windows XP and 2003 Operating Systems.
It can affect all compiled help files (.chm) including the S-493 pre-classroom lessons.
StatusThis problem is completely described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 902225.
FixIt is suggested that individual users follow Method 2 described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 902225. Item 003
DescriptionProgram crashes when user selects Vector Output Files, Optional ASCII Format from the Export/Output Menu. The error typically occurs immediately after the program finishes calculating fuel moistures for the simulation. The user may or may not get a “Referenced Memory Error” with the program shutting down when this error occurs. FixA new executable can be accessed and downloaded from this site. The user only needs to replace the current version of the farsite4.exe with the new executable.
farsite4.exe (2.015 MB) is only the executable file for the program and assumes the user has previously installed FARSITE version 4.0. If you have not previously installed FARSITE please proceed to the Downloads Section and acquire the full installation package.
