This session of S-493 has been developed to minimize the need for an internet connection while completing the distance learning lessons. However, you will need to download the course material from this site.

Pre-Qualifying Lessons 1 - 4, November 22, 2006 - January 5, 2007

1. Create a separate folder on your hard drive (C:\) to download the following three files into.
2. Download Lessons 1 - 4 contained in the file Lessons1-4.chm .
3. Download the FARSITE software, version 4.1.052; from the download page at this site. Make sure to download the Full Installation Package (farsite4.1052_setup.exe), NOT the update package.
4. Download the self-extracting zip file pdfs.exe with the required texts in .pdf format. Once downloaded, just double-click this file to expand into the .pdf files. Do this before beginning the lessons.

Once you download the above files, you will also need internet access to complete two parts of the pre-qualifying lessons;

• the Assignment for Lesson 2,
• the Exam at the end of Lesson 4.

To begin the course just double-click the "Lessons1-4.chm" file you downloaded to your PC. Have Fun!

Pre-Qualifying Exam to be Completed by January 5, 2007

This exam is to completed online. You will receive an email by December 2, 2005 from UMonline with the details for taking the Pre-Qualifying Exam. If you do not hear from UMonline by December 2, 2005 please contact Jim Brenner, Evaluations Unit Leader, at 850-488-6480 or  Email: brennej at doacs.state.fl.us

DO NOT CONTINUE until you have been accepted into the course.

Pre-Classroom Lessons 5 - 10, January 15, 2007 - February 26, 2007

To get started on the pre-classroom lessons follow the following steps;

1. Download Lessons 5 - 10 contained in the file Lessons5-10.chm to the Farsite4 folder on your computer. (This is where FARSITE was installed in Lesson 3)
2. Download the self-extracting zip file pdfs2.exe to the Farsite4 folder. Once downloaded, just double-click this file to expand into the .pdf files. Make sure they unzip into the Farsite 4 folder. Do this before beginning the lessons.
3. Create a new folder under your Farsite4 folder named exercises. (This will be at the same level as the existing examples folder you used in Lesson 3.)
4. Download the self-extracting zip file data11_14.exe to the new ...\ Farsite4\exercises folder. Once downloaded, just double-click this file to expand into the data files. Make sure they unzip into the ...\ Farsite4\exercises folder. There will be now be 24 files in your ...\ Farsite4\exercises folder.

Once you download the above files, you will need internet access to complete parts of the following pre-classroom lessons:

• the Lecture for Lesson 5,
• the Quizzes at the end of Lessons 7, 8, 9, & 10.

 To begin the course just double-click the "Lessons5-10.chm" file you downloaded to the Farsite4 folder on your PC. Hope you're still having Fun!

Pre-Classroom Lessons 11 - 14, January 15, 2007 - March 20, 2007

The Fun Continues:

This is the last set of pre-classroom lessons, download Lessons 11 - 14 contained in the file Lessons11-14.chm to the Farsite4 folder on your computer. (This is where FARSITE was installed in Lesson 3 and the Lessons5-10.chm file are.)

You will need internet access to complete parts of the following pre-classroom lessons:

• the Lecture for Lesson 11,
• the Quizzes at the end of Lessons 12, 13, & 14.
